Stephen Colbert, host of CBS’s “The Late Demonstrate,” publicly accused CBS executives of blocking an interview with James Talarico, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Texas, as early voting began in the state. Colbert revealed the decision during his broadcast Monday night, stating that CBS lawyers intervened to halt the segment.

“We had a really good interview with James Talarico, who is running for Senate in Texas,” Colbert told his audience, according to reports from the Los Angeles Times, Houston Public Media, and the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. “And CBS lawyers said, ‘Nope. We’re pulling it.’” He further stated the decision came as early voting commenced in Texas, a detail also reported by The Killeen Daily Herald.

Talarico is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz. The timing of the alleged intervention has drawn scrutiny, as it occurred during a critical period of the election cycle. Colbert did not elaborate on the specific reasons provided by CBS lawyers for pulling the interview, but indicated it was a direct order from the network’s legal team.

As of Tuesday, CBS has not issued a public statement addressing Colbert’s claims. The network has remained silent on the matter, leaving the rationale behind the decision unclear. Talarico’s campaign has also not publicly commented on the situation.

The incident raises questions about network influence during election season and the potential impact on candidate exposure. The timing of the alleged decision, coinciding with the start of early voting, suggests a deliberate attempt to limit Talarico’s reach to voters, according to observers.
