Czech High Jumper Jan Štefela Secures Bronze at World Athletics Championships in Tokyo
TOKYO – Jan Štefela of the Czech Republic claimed a bronze medal in the menS high jump at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, capping a season of impressive performances and exceeding pre-competition expectations. The victory marks a significant achievement for Štefela and his coach, Jaroslav Baba, who noted the athlete’s ability to manage the pressure surrounding medal predictions.
While not entering the competition as a clear favorite, Štefela’s consistent form throughout the year positioned him among the contenders. Baba revealed the team intentionally shielded Štefela from distractions leading up to the event, including a pre-championship training camp in Iwaki designed to maximize focus. “They took care of us, as we did not have to deal with the young children, we did not have to deal with anything. We had the stadium for ourselves, nothing took energy and we arrived two days before the qualification,” Baba said, highlighting the benefits of the secluded planning.
Baba believes Štefela, despite his success,is far from reaching his full potential. “When he lasts health, I believe that Honza has not yet said the last word,” Baba stated, hinting at continued ambitions for his athlete. The coach also remarked on Štefela’s composure under pressure, noting,”He tried not to read and listen to it much, but of course the medal was talked about. But he managed it brilliantly, it did not put it. He probably has a good nerve.”
