Statement from Rainforest Trust on the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership call – Rainforest Trust

Rainforest Trust Backs Indigenous Guardians of Forests

At London Climate Action Week, leaders urged action. They emphasized Indigenous rights and financing to protect forests. The Rainforest Trust has now responded to this vital call.

Rainforest Trust’s Commitment

The Rainforest Trust, led by CEO James Deutsch, announced its support. They will bolster Indigenous communities’ land tenure efforts. They will also help them to fulfill their role as guardians of nature.

“Rainforest Trust is proud to renew and increase our pledge of support to Indigenous People and Local Communities to assist their efforts to strengthen land tenure and fulfill their critical and historical role as nature’s guardians.  We can only achieve our mission of saving species and protecting our planet by partnering with Indigenous People and Local Communities, and indeed that partnership is critical for the world to achieve our agreed target of 30×30.”

The world’s forests absorb about 2.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide yearly, crucial to mitigating climate change (World Wildlife Fund).

The Larger Context

The Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership called for pledges. These will address land tenure and forest finance. They aim to be delivered at COP30 in Brazil. This will emphasize climate justice and direct funding for community-led conservation. This will bolster global efforts.
