Starting January 4, 2027, motorists in Strasbourg will receive thirty minutes of free parking once
Starting January 4, 2027, motorists in Strasbourg will receive thirty minutes of free parking once per day across all paid zones in the city, as announced by the municipal administration.
The municipal council will officially adopt the measure on November 2, following an announcement made by Catherine Trautmann on October 27. The policy aims to assist residents with limited financial means and stimulate short-term parking turnover.
How the New Parking Structure Operates Across Zones
The thirty-minute complimentary period applies to purple, green, yellow, and red zones throughout Strasbourg. Drivers must secure a free ticket either at a parking meter or through an online platform for each daily session, according to Landdry Augier de Lajallet, the deputy mayor in charge of parking.
Beyond the initial thirty minutes, pricing adjusts for durations up to ninety minutes. Billing will transition from minute-by-minute calculations to a quarter-hour structure, meaning any started fifteen-minute block will be billed in full.
Parking Changes Cost Strasbourg 2.7 Million Euros Annually
The incoming parking modifications will generate an estimated revenue reduction of 500,000 euros annually for the city. This follows a previous residential parking reform implemented in July that lowered resident permit fees at a cost of 2.2 million euros to the municipal budget.

Combined, these parking adjustments represent a total annual financial effort of 2.7 million euros by the city of Strasbourg. Additional infrastructure changes accompany the initiative, including the installation of 39 purple parking spaces in the city center by the end of October.
“Un véritable soutien pour les gens qui n’ont pas beaucoup de moyens.”
stated Catherine Trautmann regarding the administration’s objective to ease short-term parking expenses for lower-income motorists.
