Star Fox & Zelda Remake Reportedly Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 This Year

March 30, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Nintendo is planning a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, slated for release around the holiday season of 2026, according to multiple sources. The company also intends to release a new Star Fox game for the console this summer, with an announcement expected in April.

The information comes from video game leaker NateTheHate, whose previous reporting accurately predicted the reveal date of the Switch 2. His claims have been corroborated by sources at Video Games Chronicle (VGC). The new Star Fox title is described as a “classic style” game that will include online multiplayer functionality, according to NateTheHate.

This marks a significant return for the Star Fox franchise, which has seen limited new releases in recent years. The last original Star Fox game was Star Fox Zero for the Wii U in 2016, a title developed in collaboration with PlatinumGames that received mixed reviews. A retro-style release, Star Fox 2, originally completed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System but unreleased until 2017, came via the SNES Classic Edition.

The planned Ocarina of Time remake coincides with the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. NateTheHate suggests the scope of the remake remains uncertain, potentially ranging from a faithful, 1:1 recreation similar to the Demon’s Souls remake to a more expansive reimagining with greater design freedom.

Nintendo’s plans for 2026 appear to prioritize revisiting established franchises. A new 3D Mario game, however, is now expected to arrive in 2027, according to NateTheHate. The development team behind Super Mario Odyssey, released in 2017, has been partially focused on Donkey Kong Bananza, released last year, with other developers reportedly working on the next Mario installment.

Nintendo is reportedly delaying a general Nintendo Direct presentation until June, opting instead to announce new games and updates through social media and its Today app. Several Switch 2 titles previously announced, including Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven: Groove, and Fire Emblem: Fortune Weave, are expected to launch this summer. A new Switch Sports game is also under consideration, though its release is less certain.

Further reports indicate potential re-releases of existing titles for the Switch 2, including Pikmin 4 and Xenoblade 2. A leak on Reddit suggests Nintendo is also developing a Super Metroid remake with pixel art, and that MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, is working on a new Metroid title, Metroid 6. The release schedule for the DLC for Mario Kart World has also been pushed back to 2027.

FromSoftware’s Switch 2 exclusive title, The Duskbloods, is currently scheduled to release before Nintendo’s Ocarina of Time remake at the end of 2026.
