St. Louis Man Arrested in Shooting of Sleeping Teen

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First alert 4) – A Berkeley man has been charged in connection with a February shooting that left a sleeping teenager injured in St. Louis City.

Joshua Malone, 22, of Berkeley, faces charges of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. He is currently being held without bond at the St. Louis City Justice Center.

The incident occurred on February 10 in the 5700 block of Goodfellow Place. The victim’s mother, Talonda White, informed First Alert 4 that her 13-year-old son, JaVoni Ball, was asleep when gunfire erupted outside their residence, striking him.

“Once I came out, he was laying on the floor like ‘Mommy, I got shot.’ I immediately dialed 911,” White recounted to First Alert 4 in February.

Ball sustained critical injuries from the shooting.

authorities reported finding surveillance footage from the vicinity that captured the sound of gunshots and showed two individuals walking together a block away from the shooting site. These individuals were observed entering a dark-colored SUV.

Investigators traced the SUV to an Uber driver, who reportedly provided a photograph of Malone and another passenger in his vehicle. Law enforcement then traced the phone number associated with the Uber account to Malone.

A firearm registered to Malone was recovered and resolute to have discharged one of the casings found at the scene by investigators.
