San Antonio spurs Dominate Guangzhou Loong-Lions 119-88 in Preseason Opener
The San Antonio Spurs began their 2023-24 preseason schedule with a decisive 119-88 victory over the Guangzhou Loong-Lions on Monday. The Silver and Black showcased their depth despite being without several key players, including De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, Jeremy sochan, and Kelly Olynyk.
Victor Wembanyama nearly recorded a triple-double in just 16 minutes, finishing with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks. Luke Kornet complemented Wembanyama’s performance with 16 points, shooting a perfect percentage from the field.
Julian Champagnie and Keldon Johnson each contributed 16 points for the Spurs, with Champagnie hitting 4 of 7 three-pointers and Johnson converting 6 of 8 field goals. Rookie Carter Bryant also made a strong debut, scoring 15 points while demonstrating solid defense.
Despite the Spurs’ dominance, several former NBA players on the Loong-Lions roster put up notable performances. Frank Kaminsky,who last played in the NBA in 2023,led all scorers with 22 points and five three-pointers. Victor Oladipo added 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
The Spurs will next face NBA competition on Wednesday when they travel to Miami to take on the Heat.
