Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has publicly addressed the speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future with the club, amid continued interest from Saudi Pro League teams. The comments came as Liverpool prepare for potential further transfer activity, with several players linked with moves both into and out of Anfield.

Van Dijk acknowledged Salah as a “good friend” and expressed hope that the Egyptian international will remain with Liverpool, but did not offer definitive assurances. The ongoing speculation highlights the financial pull of the Saudi Pro League, which has already attracted numerous high-profile players.

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, according to comments from Hungary manager Marco Rossi. Although Szoboszlai’s current contract with Liverpool extends until 2028, Rossi’s remarks suggest the player harbors ambitions of playing for the Spanish giants. Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Szoboszlai regarding a new contract to deter any potential bids.

Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation is also under review, with the defender entering the final months of his current deal. New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that contract talks with Konate are underway, and has indicated his desire to retain the Frenchman’s services. Konate has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid as a free transfer option at the finish of the 2025-26 season.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reportedly set to compete for the signing of Christian Pulisic. The potential transfer battle adds another layer of intrigue to the summer transfer window. Chelsea are also reportedly preparing a significant bid, estimated at £50 million, for defender Murillo.

On the African continent, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will remain in East Africa. Orlando Pirates have also set a new Premier Soccer League (PSL) record with a 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants. CAF is also considering expanding the AFCON finals to 28 teams.

Bafana Bafana, the South African national team, have selected Mexico as their training base for the World Cup, a location at a higher altitude than Johannesburg.
