Nineteen Buffalo Sabres players toured Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich, following a practice session on Thursday, September 26, 2024, ahead of their NHL Global Series Challenge Germany game against EHC Red Bull Munchen.

The tour, initially planned for just four players – JJ Peterka, Rasmus Dahlin, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and Henri Jokiharju – expanded as word spread among the team. Players were given access to the dugout, the pitch, the FC Bayern Munich locker room, and the tunnel leading to the field, according to NHL.com.

For JJ Peterka, a native of Munich and a fan of the football club, the experience was particularly meaningful. “It’s pretty cool,” Peterka said. “It’s a little different from watching in the stands. Standing on the grass was so cool. Seeing it from a different perspective like that, yeah, not bad at all.”

Rasmus Dahlin, recently named Sabres captain, similarly expressed his impression of the stadium. “What we have is nice,” Dahlin said. “Never seen one like this before.”

Allianz Arena, the home of the German Football Record Champion FC Bayern Munich, features a museum showcasing artifacts and exhibits from the club’s 124-year history. The museum spans nearly 36,000 square feet, according to the club’s official website.

The Sabres faced EHC Red Bull Munchen in the 2024 NHL Global Series Challenge Germany at SAP Garden on September 26, 2024. The Bayern Munich schedule for the 2025-26 season has not yet been released.
