Sports Industry Shorts: Millwall FC, Edinburgh Rugby, and Belfast Giants Partnerships
Millwall FC, Edinburgh Rugby, and the Belfast Giants have secured major commercial partnerships as they enter the 2026/27 season. Millwall named Powerade as Official Hydration Partner, Edinburgh Rugby extended its away hub deal with The Black Bull, and the Belfast Giants unveiled O2-branded jerseys following a title sponsorship agreement.
Millwall FC Integrates Powerade and Coca-Cola into Stadium Infrastructure
Millwall FC has expanded its commercial footprint at The Den by naming Powerade as the club’s Official Hydration Partner and renewing an existing agreement with Coca-Cola. According to the club, the partnership ensures Powerade and Smartwater are supplied to players and staff throughout the season, while Powerade products will be available for purchase by supporters. The club also extended its relationship with Coca-Cola to maintain the presence of Sprite and Fanta across the stadium on matchdays.
The deal extends beyond beverage supply into physical infrastructure. Powerade will sponsor the SE16 Bus Bar as part of a Fan Zone upgrade scheduled for September, which includes the installation of new tables and seating. Additionally, Kiosk 11 will undergo refurbishment to feature Coke Zero branding. Luke Wilson, Chief Commercial Officer at The Den, stated the partnership supports players on the pitch and enhances the matchday experience through the Fan Zone and environmental initiatives.
A primary component of the agreement focuses on sustainability. Millwall is implementing post-mix drinks systems to reduce single-use plastic packaging, utilizing bag-in-box units that served thousands of litres of soft drinks during the previous season.
Edinburgh Rugby Secures Away Hub Continuity at The Black Bull
Edinburgh Rugby has renewed its partnership with The Black Bull for the 2026/27 season, extending the relationship between Edinburgh Rugby and the Grassmarket venue into a third year. The agreement provides a centralized city-centre location for supporters to watch away fixtures, utilizing a facility that accommodates up to 260 people and features eight sports screens.
The commercial terms include a 20 per cent discount for season-ticket holders and other club ticket holders on match days. To deepen fan engagement, the partnership will feature player appearances, Q&A sessions, and a themed food menu. Edinburgh Rugby wing Wes Goosen described the venue as a “second home” for the team over the past year.
Belfast Giants Launch O2 Title Sponsorship and Kit Range
The Belfast Giants, reigning Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) champions, have introduced their first O2-branded jerseys for the 2026/27 campaign. The telecoms company’s branding will appear across home, away, alternate, and Challenge Cup jerseys. This move follows a 10-year naming rights agreement for the wider Odyssey site, which was renamed The O2 Belfast in July.
The partnership represents O2’s first partnership in professional ice hockey. Beyond branding, the deal includes consumer incentives: Priority from O2 members receive a 20 per cent discount on the new jerseys and 48-hour pre-sale access to season tickets. Steve Thornton, Sports Director at The Odyssey Trust, called the partnership a “significant milestone” for both organizations.
Market Expansion in Padel and Local Match Sponsorship
As the UK operator gets ready to launch three more London locations, Padel Social Club has named a new managing director. The appointment comes as Padel Social Club plans new locations in Paddington, The O2, and Kentish Town. The new executive arrives following nearly 12 years with the lifestyle and fitness firm Equinox and a four-year tenure at fitness technology company Brawn. This expansion aligns with a broader increase in padel participation across Britain.
In Lancashire, Fleetwood Town has named Prestons Diamonds as the match sponsor for its first home league fixture against Gillingham. The independent, family-owned retailer, founded in 1869, already sponsors the club’s match clock and captain Ched Evans for the 2026/27 season. Fleetwood Town commercial manager Sam Heaney attributed the continued backing to the dedication of owner Karl Massey.
Commercial Synergy Breakdown
- Infrastructure: Millwall’s transition to post-mix systems reduces overhead on plastic waste.
- Fan Engagement: Edinburgh Rugby’s hub model offloads the logistical burden of away-game coordination to a professional hospitality partner.
- Brand Integration: The Belfast Giants’ deal demonstrates a “total site” approach, linking the venue (The O2 Belfast) directly to the team’s apparel.
