Sports Industry News: Ashley Young, Lancashire Cricket and World Tennis Updates

August 11, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Former England international footballer Ashley Young has signed with sports communication agency Soapbox to manage his public relations and social media activity. The partnership arrives as Young transitions from professional football into his role as a pundit for Sky Sports during the 2026/27 Premier League season, while continuing to work alongside his long-term commercial agent Nicola Nolan at Belmont Sports & Entertainment.

The Business Behind Football Media Transitions

Soapbox, which boasts a client roster featuring Anthony Joshua, Luke Littler, Billy Monger, and Karen Carney alongside recent additions Target Darts and Baller League, aims to elevate the profile of the former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender. Andy Bell, Co-Founder of Soapbox, noted that welcoming a player of Young’s stature highlights the trust placed in their team during a defining post-playing career stage.

Leadership Realignment at Lancashire Cricket Club

Kenyon joins the club from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, where he also served as CEO, and is slated to succeed Daniel Gidney following a 14-year tenure. Kenyon brings extensive sports leadership experience, including a decade-long spell at Everton Football Club as Chief Commercial and Communications Officer and CEO of Everton in the Community, where he contributed to the delivery of the club’s new stadium. Dame Sarah Storey, Chair of Lancashire Cricket, noted that Kenyon emerged as the outstanding candidate following an extensive search process.

Global Governing Bodies Refresh Brand Assets

In international sports administration, the newly rebranded World Tennis—formerly operating as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) since June 2026—has secured a two-year apparel partnership with Swiss sportswear brand Fourteen. Under the agreement, Fourteen becomes the official apparel supplier of the global governing body, providing bespoke garments such as t-shirts, polos, shorts, and jumpers featuring the organization’s updated visual identity.

Infrastructure Upgrades in League One

Birmingham City Football Club has agreed to a partnership with climate control brand Haier, making the firm the club’s official heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) partner. Haier will upgrade club facilities with sustainable HVAC systems and execute commercial activations. Jeremy Dale, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham City Football Club, and Bob Cowlard, Chief Executive Officer at Haier HVAC Solutions, highlighted that the collaboration supports investment within the evolving Birmingham Sports Quarter through the Birmingham Business Alliance network.

Data Distribution and Betting Integration

On the international federation front, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has finalized an exclusive global betting data and streaming partnership with UK-based sports technology provider FeedConstruct. The agreement grants FeedConstruct exclusive rights to distribute live streams and real-time data from selected WBSC competitions to international sportsbook operators, enabling in-play betting markets. Narek Harutyunyan, CEO of FeedConstruct, stated that baseball’s high-frequency, stat-driven nature serves as a premier asset for in-play engagement across international sports portfolios.
