Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Breaks Records with 718M Views | Variety
Sony Pictures’ trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” shattered records, garnering 718.6 million views within 24 hours of its Wednesday release. The unprecedented figure eclipses the previous record held by the trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which amassed 365 million views.
The speed at which the “Spider-Man” trailer achieved its milestone is as well noteworthy. It surpassed “Deadpool & Wolverine’s” record in just eight hours, a feat previously accomplished by the “Deadpool 3” trailer during the 2024 Super Bowl. That trailer had, in turn, overtaken the 24-hour record previously set by the “Spider-Man: No Way Home” trailer in 2021, which logged 355.5 million views.
The “Brand New Day” trailer’s success extends beyond the realm of film, surpassing the most-viewed trailer for a video game. Last year’s trailer for “Grand Theft Auto VI” garnered 475 million views in its first 24 hours, establishing a new benchmark for video game marketing – a record now held by the latest Spider-Man installment.
The film marks Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man following the critically and commercially successful “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which featured the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as previous iterations of the character. “No Way Home” grossed $1.9 billion worldwide.
According to a synopsis released by Sony, “Four years have passed since the events of ‘No Way Home,’ and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.” The story continues, detailing Peter’s dedication to protecting New York City as a full-time Spider-Man, a commitment that leads to a “surprising physical evolution” and a confrontation with a powerful new threat.
The cast includes Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. Destin Daniel Cretton directs the film, with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor are producing, with Louis D’Esposito and David Cain serving as executive producers.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is scheduled for release in theaters on July 31.
