Companies across Chemnitz, Erzgebirge, Mittelsachsen, and the Zwickau region can now register to participate in the “Spätschicht” (Late Shift) event scheduled for October 30, 2026, according to an announcement made today by event organizers.
The Spätschicht, an annual event designed to offer the public a behind-the-scenes seem at local industry and businesses, will feature free guided tours of participating facilities. The event aims to connect the public with employees and provide insights into the working world, with a particular focus on career opportunities and vocational training.
Registration for companies wishing to participate is now open via the event website, www.industriekultur-chemnitz.de. Organizers anticipate a diverse range of participants, from industrial operations to healthcare facilities like Klinikum Chemnitz, mirroring the breadth of businesses that took part in the 2025 event.
Last year’s Spätschicht drew approximately 5,000 visitors to 100 participating companies, setting a novel attendance record. The event provides a platform for businesses to showcase their operations and engage with potential employees, particularly those seeking apprenticeships or entry-level positions. Information regarding job openings and training programs will be available during the tours.
The City of Chemnitz, through its Department of Economic Development, is organizing the Spätschicht in cooperation with Grundstücks- und Gebäudewirtschafts-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (GGG). Registration for the public, allowing visitors to book tours, will open in early October 2026, with further details to be announced closer to the time.
The Spätschicht is intended to serve as a showcase for companies and institutions in the region, with those offering apprenticeships or job opportunities to be specifically identified in the event program and online portal.
