Did You see it? SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket launch lights Up Las Vegas Sky
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A brilliant streak illuminated the Las Vegas valley Sunday evening as a SpaceX falcon 9 rocket launched from California, captivating residents across the region.Many 8 News Now viewers reported witnessing the rocket’s contrail, a luminous, lingering cloud, as it ascended into the night sky.
The launch,originating from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa barbara County,California around 7 p.m., carried a new batch of 28 Starlink satellites designed to expand the company’s broadband internet network. SpaceX confirmed the upper stage booster was on course to deploy these satellites-known as Starlink Group 11-20-approximately one hour after liftoff.
This mission marks the 28th flight for the Falcon 9’s first stage booster, a component previously used to support launches including Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, DART, Transporter-7, Iridium OneWeb, SDA-0B, NROL-113, NROL-167, NROL-149, NAOS, and 18 prior Starlink missions, according to SpaceX.
Residents in Santa Barbara, san luis Obispo, and Ventura counties reported hearing sonic booms associated with the launch. This isn’t the first time the Las Vegas valley has witnessed a Falcon 9 launch this year; a similar event occurred in February, also originating from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
