SOVA Student Art Exhibitions & Film Screening – Blacksburg, VA
The Virginia Tech School of Visual Arts (SOVA) will host a series of exhibition receptions throughout April and May at the Armory Gallery, located at 203 Draper Road NW in Blacksburg. The events will showcase the function of students completing fine arts degrees.
Receptions for Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) candidates in Studio Art and Undergraduate Creative Technologies are scheduled for April 15, 22 and 29, each running from 4 to 6 p.m. A reception for Michael Davis-King’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Technologies Thesis Exhibition will follow on May 7, also from 4 to 6 p.m. The schedule concludes with a Graphic Design Showcase Reception on May 14, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Armory Gallery, originally constructed in 1936 as a National Guard Armory, underwent renovations in 2007 as part of Virginia Tech’s Arts Initiative. It now serves as the School of Visual Arts’ primary exhibition venue, displaying work by national, regional, and local artists, as well as senior studio exhibitions each spring and fall. The building also houses offices, workspaces, and classrooms for the School of Visual Arts.
In addition to the gallery receptions, SOVA’s Creative Technologies students will present a film screening at the Creativity and Innovation District (CID) Building Performance Room on April 22, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. The gallery is open from 12-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, coinciding with the Virginia Tech academic schedule.
The Armory Gallery is a designated trail site of the Montgomery County Artisan Trail and a member of ‘Round the Mountain Artisan Network.
