Southold Sportswriter “Fast Eddie” Schuyler Honored with Hall of Fame Induction

Southold’s ‘Fast⁤ Eddie’ Schuyler, Renowned Sports Journalist, Enshrined in ⁢Horse⁢ Racing⁢ Hall ​of Fame

SOUTHOLD, NY – ‍Edward “Fast Eddie” Schuyler, a ‌celebrated‌ sports journalist​ whose career spanned ‍more than four ‍decades covering boxing and horse racing, was recently inducted into teh‌ horse Racing ⁢Hall of Fame. The⁢ ceremony, held at​ North Fork⁣ Taps and Corks ⁢in Southold, drew‌ a packed crowd eager‌ to honor the 90-year-old schuyler’s lifetime achievements.

Schuyler’s reporting encompassed some of the most iconic moments and figures in 20th-century sports. His work included coverage of Triple Crown winners ⁢Secretariat,Seattle Slew,and Affirmed,as⁢ well as boxing legends ‍Muhammad Ali,Joe​ Frazier,and ​Mike Tyson. The induction​ recognizes not ⁣only his prolific‌ output but also his ‌enduring impact ​on the way‍ these sports were‌ documented and understood ‌by fans.

Throughout⁢ his career, Schuyler covered 23 fights featuring Muhammad Ali, witnessed Mike Tyson’s ⁣upset loss ​to Buster Douglas in‌ Japan, and reported on Forego’s dramatic ⁤victory in the Metropolitan Handicap. He also covered⁣ boxing at the​ Olympics from 1976 through 2000, reporting on fights in 19 countries.

“To ‍be a writer ⁢and‌ cover what ‌I⁢ did for more than 40 years was a dream come ⁣true,”‌ Schuyler said. “There are so manny great stories and personalities in‍ sports, especially in boxing and horse racing. If you can’t‌ find a good story there, ‌you’re in the‌ wrong business.”

colleagues and friends lauded ‍Schuyler’s dedication and expertise. “It⁤ was a ‌pleasure to work with him, ‍and⁤ he was a good friend to⁢ the sport,” ‌said fellow ⁢sports journalist Mr. Curran. “He was a good friend as well ​as a treasured colleague.”

Schuyler’s daughter, Ms. Schuyler Trapani, shared a childhood memory⁢ illustrating his deep connection to the world of boxing. “I must have been​ about 4 ⁤or 5, the TV ​was on, and Muhammad ⁣Ali was fighting,” ​she recalled.”I was watching the fight,and I kept saying,’Hit⁤ him,daddy! Hit ⁣him,daddy!’ As,in my⁤ mind,Dad and Muhammad Ali were boxing together.”
