Comedy Central will postpone a new “South Park” episode scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, due to a production delay, series co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced.
The delay marks a rare interruption to the show’s recent schedule of releasing new episodes every other Wednesday. While uncommon, this postponement highlights the demanding, last-minute production process behind the long-running animated series and impacts fans awaiting the latest installment. The series will return with a new episode on September 24, followed by a two-week break, then resume its bi-weekly release schedule from October 15 to December 10.
“Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done,” Parker and Stone said in a statement. “This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and ‘South Park’ fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”
The postponement follows recent controversy surrounding the August 6 episode, “Got a Nut,” which featured satirical depictions of political commentator Charlie Kirk. After Kirk’s death on September 10, Comedy Central removed the episode from its linear rotation, though it remains available on Paramount+.The episode included a character winning the “Charlie Kirk Award for Young Master Debaters” and making controversial statements.
Parker and stone executive produce “South Park” alongside Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II, with producers Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman. Christopher Brion serves as the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.
