South Dallas Shooting: 1 Dead, 2 Injured in Road Rage Incident

One man died and two others were injured Thursday night in a shooting on South Fitzhugh Avenue in Dallas, police said. The shooting, reported just after 11 p.m. In the 4500 block of the street, is being investigated as a possible road rage incident.

Authorities arrived at the scene to find three people shot, according to reports. One victim died at the scene, while two others were transported to a local hospital. As of Friday afternoon, one of those injured remained in critical condition, officials stated.

Witness Anthony Smith described hearing multiple gunshots. “They were like, baa baa, baa baa. It was frequent. I say like a lower caliber gun,” Smith said, adding, “That’s crazy. It ain’t none that serious. No, it’s not. Come on now. It’s late. Just take it uncomplicated. Go home.”

Investigators are reviewing video footage from two businesses in the area that may have captured the shooting. The footage reportedly shows a black sedan being followed closely by a small white SUV. A confrontation occurred on a bridge, after which gunfire erupted, according to initial reports.

Police have not yet identified the victims and the Medical Examiner’s Office has not released their names. A fourth person was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting but was not injured. That individual was taken to police headquarters for questioning, according to WFAA.

Family members at the scene told WFAA that an uncle was in the car with his nephews when the shooting occurred.

The shooting occurred in Dallas City Council District 7. While data suggests violent crime is down in the district, Smith said he doesn’t feel safer. “Here’s a high, crime is heavy over here,” he said.

District 7 Council Member Adam Bazaldua was unavailable for comment, according to a spokesperson.

The investigation remains ongoing, and as of Friday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
