Montreal television host Sophie Fouron sustained a significant leg injury during her debut hosting Bonsoir Bonsoir! on Wednesday evening, but continued the broadcast without revealing the extent of the wound to viewers. The incident occurred as she settled into her chair, tripping over a teleprompter cable.
“It wasn’t a trial by fire, it was a trial by blood,” Fouron recounted to The Press on Thursday, adding that she was not seriously hampered by the fall.
The accident took place just as the live broadcast was beginning at the Télé-Québec studios in Montreal. Fouron, unaware of the teleprompter’s placement, stumbled and scraped her left leg. A dressing was not immediately available.
Fouron initially believed the injury was minor, located between her knee and ankle. Though, during a commercial break, when she lifted her dress to apply disinfectant, she discovered a substantial amount of blood. The studio audience and crew reportedly expressed concern at the sight of the wound.
“Luckily, I was wearing a long, flowing dress.Had I been wearing pants, it would have soaked through. A shorter dress might have shown the injury on television,” she explained, acknowledging a degree of fortunate circumstance.
Fouron is currently filling in for Jean-Sébastien Girard, who is himself a temporary replacement for Jean-Philippe Wauthier. She will continue to host Bonsoir Bonsoir! until August 21st, when Girard is scheduled to return to complete the season. Bonsoir Bonsoir! airs weeknights on Télé-Québec.
