Sony to Phase Out PlayStation Network Branding | IGN
Sony Interactive Entertainment is phasing out the “PlayStation Network” branding before the finish of the year, according to a report initially noted by IGN. The move signals a significant rebranding effort for the company’s online services.
The change, first reported by IGN on Friday, comes as Sony intends to retire both the “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” names by September 2026, according to Rolling Out. An email sent to developers reportedly detailed the decision, with the intention of better representing the scope of Sony’s online offerings, as reported by TechSpot.
PlayStation Network currently serves as the platform for online gaming, digital game purchases through the PlayStation Store, and access to subscription services like PlayStation Plus. PlayStation Plus offers access to game catalogs, online multiplayer capabilities, and member discounts. The PlayStation Store is described as the “largest library of PlayStation games in the world,” offering both major releases and independent titles.
The shift in branding comes as Sony continues to develop its online ecosystem. The company’s official PlayStation account allows users to manage their accounts, view network status, and access tailored offers. Users can also create recent PlayStation Network accounts through the same portal.
Sony has not yet announced what will replace the PlayStation Network branding. The company has not issued a public statement regarding the change beyond the communication to developers. The network status page remains active, allowing users to check for maintenance or service disruptions.
