Sony Closes Studio Behind Demon’s Souls & Shadow of the Colossus Remakes

February 19, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Sony PlayStation has shut down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for critically acclaimed remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, with the closure taking effect next month. The decision, confirmed by PlayStation to Bloomberg, impacts approximately 70 employees.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” a PlayStation spokesperson stated. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

The shutdown follows the cancellation of a live-service God of War title that Bluepoint had been developing until January 2025. The studio subsequently spent the past year pitching novel project ideas, but was unable to secure approval for any of them before the decision to close was made, according to Bloomberg.

Founded in 2006 by former Retro Studios employees, Bluepoint Games initially focused on porting and remastering existing titles, including the God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The studio gained widespread recognition for its 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and its 2020 remake of Demon’s Souls, both of which were lauded for their visual fidelity and faithful recreation of the original games.

Sony acquired Bluepoint Games in 2021. Following the acquisition, the studio contributed to the co-development of God of War Ragnarok but did not release or announce any new standalone titles. The Verge reported that Sony’s decision to close Bluepoint Games came after a recent business review.

The closure of Bluepoint Games is the latest in a series of restructuring moves within Sony’s PlayStation division. In 2024, Sony closed Firewalk Studios shortly after the launch of its game, Concord, and likewise shuttered its mobile studio, Neon Koi.
