Son of Former Soccer‌ Player Fernando Navarro Dies at Age 5 After‌ Liver disease battle

Emilio⁣ Navarro Canales,the 5-year-old son of former Mexican ‍soccer ​player Fernando Navarro,has died after a months-long battle with a liver ‍disease ‍requiring an‌ emergency transplant. The news was confirmed ⁣by Club León,⁣ Navarro’s ⁤former team, who extended their condolences to the⁤ family.

“club León deeply regrets​ the sensitive death ⁢of Emilio Navarro Canales, son of our dear friend Fernando navarro. ‍We join in the ⁤grief ⁣that overwhelms all his relatives. Rest in peace, dear​ Emi,” ⁣the club stated, without disclosing the specific cause of death.

The ‍tragedy unfolded after Emilio‍ was​ hospitalized with critical liver failure.⁢ In August,‍ Fernando‌ Navarro launched a gofundme campaign to help cover ​the mounting medical expenses,⁣ aiming ⁢to raise 3‍ million​ pesos (approximately $150,000).

A message from Emilio himself, shared as ⁢part of the ⁤fundraising effort, read: “I’m Emilio,⁣ I’m 5 years old. I​ love to dance, swim and play with my brother Alonso. Today I am in ‍intensive care:‍ my liver ‍stopped working and I need a transplant⁤ immediately.”

Following a accomplished ‍transplant,Emilio remained hospitalized for recovery. The family shared an update 40 days post-transplant, stating, “I ​already have my new liver and 40 days​ later I am still in the hospital looking forward to recovering! Even though I have medical insurance, it has⁣ already reached its ⁣limit, the hospital expenses are enormous and exceed my family, my father⁣ Fernando Navarro⁢ has created this fund to⁢ be able ⁢to pay part of those extra expenses.” ‍ He added, ⁤”Every second counts. Your donation can save my life and​ return me ​home to ​my family. Thank you‍ for helping me continue​ dreaming.”

Just one day before ⁣his ⁢death was announced, Fernando Navarro publicly requested blood donors for his son. On ⁢October 25th, Navarro had initially ‌reported a positive step in his son’s recovery, announcing Emilio’s discharge after 75 days in the hospital. ‍ He expressed ⁢his gratitude, stating, “After 75 days in⁤ the hospital, Emi has already been discharged, it⁤ is the⁤ first of two big steps towards her full⁢ recovery. Thank you all for your ​prayers, your good‌ wishes, your good vibes and all your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
