Son Heung-min Shines with 2 Assists in LA FC’s MLS Victory

HOUSTON – LAFC continued its strong start to the 2026 Major League Soccer season with a 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium, a match marred by two red cards issued to the home side. The win marks LAFC’s second consecutive clean sheet to commence the season, following a 3-0 defeat of Inter Miami.

The match turned in the first half when Houston defender Antônio Carlos was shown a red card in the second minute of stoppage time for a foul on Son Heung-min, according to multiple reports. The incident left the Dynamo playing with ten men for the majority of the contest.

LAFC capitalized on the numerical advantage in the 56th minute when Mark Delgado scored, assisted by Son Heung-min and Denis Bouanga. It was Delgado’s 26th career goal in 345 appearances, and Bouanga’s 22nd assist in 103 career appearances. Notably, Bouanga has yet to score against Houston.

The Dynamo’s struggles compounded in the 76th minute when Agustín Bouzat received a second red card for a foul on Son Heung-min, reducing Houston to nine players. Shortly after, in the 82nd minute, Stephen Eustáquio extended LAFC’s lead with a goal assisted by Son Heung-min, and Delgado. According to MLS rules, Son Heung-min was credited with a secondary assist for his involvement in the play.

Son Heung-min, who played the full 90 minutes, finished the match with two assists, five shots, three chances created, and five successful dribbles, earning a match-high rating of 8.1 from FootMob. This marks the first time Son Heung-min has recorded assists in consecutive MLS league games.

LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris recorded two saves in securing his second consecutive clean sheet. Jonathan Bond made four saves for Houston.

The Dynamo debuted two players during the match: midfielder Matthew Arana, who became the youngest player in club history to appear in a first-team game at 15 years old, and rookie defender Agustín Resch. Club legend Héctor Herrera also made his first appearance for the Dynamo since the 2024 season.

LAFC will next host FC Dallas on Saturday. Houston will travel to face the New England Revolution on the same day.
