Waterford City Events and Route Details
The Waterford City events get underway from the Quay at 10am this morning, offering both 10K and 4K options for participants. The gathering forms part of a milestone year marking a quarter-century of the organisation providing direct support to individuals and families affected by cancer across the region. Community members taking part are encouraged to wear orange to demonstrate public backing for the Solas Cancer Support Centre.
Rising Operational Costs Challenge Solas Cancer Services
Today’s events follow yesterday’s Run and Walk in Dungarvan. Speaking at the Dungarvan gathering, Clare Shanahan, Client Services Coordinator with Solas in West Waterford, described the annual fundraiser as an uplifting occasion that brings people together for many different reasons. “It’s a real celebration of survival,” she stated, highlighting the power of solidarity among families and friends. Shanahan noted that the organisation is now approaching €1.5 million a year to operate its existing services as demand continues to rise. Community support has historically enabled Solas to expand its footprint throughout Waterford, including the opening of the Dungarvan service in 2016.
