SNL UK Launches with Tina Fey & Wet Leg – Performances & Reviews
LONDON – Saturday Night Live debuted its first international spinoff, Saturday Night Live UK, on Sky TV on March 21, with a monologue from veteran host Tina Fey and a musical performance by the British indie rock band Wet Leg. The premiere episode drew over 220,000 viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and is now available for streaming in the United States on Peacock.
Fey, a former cast member and writer on the original Saturday Night Live in the U.S., opened the show with a self-deprecating joke, telling the audience, “Guys, I am the youngest person to ever host SNL UK!” She referenced her past roles, including her portrayal of Sarah Palin on SNL U.S. and her character in Imply Girls, and playfully acknowledged a visual gag comparing her to Julia Louis-Dreyfus. According to the AOL, Fey quipped, “Like so many large-scale American operations these days, no one really knows why” the UK version of the show was created.
The monologue also featured surprise appearances from actor Michael Cera and British television personality Graham Norton, as well as Derry Girls actress Nicola Coughlan, who posed a question to Fey from the audience.
Wet Leg, whose second album, Moisturizer, was named one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Albums of 2025, performed two tracks from the album during the premiere episode. They began with “Mangetout,” a Grammy-nominated single that also appeared on Billboard’s list of the 20 best U.K. And Ireland songs of 2025, and followed with “Catch These Fists.”
Following their SNL UK appearance, Wet Leg is scheduled to perform at several major U.S. Music festivals, including Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands. A U.S. Tour is set to begin on April 15 at the Fox Theater in Pomona, California.
SNL UK has announced its upcoming host and musical guest pairings. Jamie Dornan will host with Wet Leg’s fellow British band Wolf Alice on March 28, and Riz Ahmed will host with Kasabian on April 4. The original Saturday Night Live in New York will return from a three-week hiatus on April 4 with Jack Black hosting and Jack White as the musical guest.
