SMU Earns 1-1 Draw Against Virginia Tech at Home
SMU earned a hard-fought point in the conference standings with a 1-1 draw against Virginia Tech on Thursday at Washburne Stadium, extending its home unbeaten streak to nine games.
How Kamiya Beck Secured the Equalizing Goal
The Mustangs fell behind early when Virginia Tech struck in the 11th minute. Weir took a touch past the goalkeeper and placed the shot into the open net, marking her seventh goal of the season and setting a new career high.
SMU answered in the 31st minute to level the score. Beck cleaned up the loose ball and drove a shot into the top of the netting for her second goal of the season. Parkhurst earned the assist on the play.

Defensive Stops Define a Physical Second Half
Both teams increased their physicality and generated scoring chances after halftime, but defensive resilience kept the score locked at 1-1. SMU generated a flurry of opportunities in the 75th minute, including a shot heading toward the goal that Virginia Tech defender Lilli Lubic cleared off the line with a backheel scorpion kick. Minutes later, SMU’s backline responded when Jessica Osborne headed away a dangerous ball in the second half.
Trujillo dove to make the stop, securing the draw for the Hokies in the final seconds.
SMU Maintains Longest Home Unbeaten Streak Since 2003
SMU outshot Virginia Tech 18 to 16, marking just the fifth time this season the Hokies were outshot in a match. Aubrey Brown recorded five saves for the Mustangs alongside two clutch defensive team saves. Trujillo tallied a season-high seven saves for Virginia Tech. With the result, the Mustangs moved to 5-4-4 overall and 0-3-2 in ACC play, maintaining an unbeaten 5-0-4 record at home this season. Their nine-match home unbeaten streak stands as the longest in team history since 2003, and the program has outscored opponents 21-3 at Washburne Stadium this year. Virginia Tech moved to 6-3-4 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

The Mustangs continue their three-legged homestand by hosting No. 14 Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 12 p.m. on ACCNX. Virginia Tech hosts No. 14 Virginia for the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.
