SMEs Licensing Process Speeded Up by Ministry and BPOM Collaboration

July 30, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) are moving to accelerate the licensing process for small and medium-sized enterprises to reduce bureaucratic friction and boost market access. According to the Independent Observer, the two government bodies are coordinating administrative procedures to simplify how small businesses obtain necessary regulatory approvals and permits.

Regulatory Acceleration and Institutional Coordination

According to the Independent Observer, officials from both the MSMEs Ministry and BPOM are targeting bureaucratic bottlenecks that have historically slowed down small business growth. The planned measures aim to streamline product registration and business identification numbers, allowing entrepreneurs to bring goods to market faster. Representatives from the MSMEs Ministry stated that inter-agency cooperation remains critical to ensuring safety standards are met without imposing excessive financial or administrative burdens on small business owners.

BPOM has outlined plans to provide dedicated assistance for micro and small enterprises seeking standard compliance clearances. This administrative overhaul addresses long-standing complaints from local business associations regarding complex paperwork and prolonged waiting periods for commercial authorization. Both agencies are currently finalizing the technical framework for the expedited licensing pathways, with further implementation details expected as the inter-agency working group continues its sessions.
