slovak Minister Pledges Support for Food Self-Sufficiency, Despite Low Wind Energy Utilization
Bratislava – Minister Taraba signed a memorandum with Takač on October 18, 2025, outlining plans to bolster Slovak food self-sufficiency and leverage the nationS agricultural potential. the agreement includes support for infrastructure construction, according to statements made by Taraba.
This initiative arrives as Slovakia navigates complex energy challenges. Despite generating only 0.02 percent of its electricity from wind power, the country possesses a significantly larger potential capacity - up to a hundred times more than currently utilized. Energetika Slovensko, encompassing ZSE and VSE, incorporates just 2 percent wind energy into its overall electricity mix.
Katarína Šulíková, a spokeswoman for energetika Slovensko, explained that the electricity mix reflects the output of their suppliers and purchasing decisions. While some politicians and citizens express opposition to wind energy, energy experts suggest a viable buisness case exists, with foreign producers already supplying wind power to Slovakia.
