Slovak Actor Trades Stage for Protest Over Soaring Food Prices
Bratislava, Slovakia – Slovak actor Lukáš Dóza has abandoned his acting career to launch a political movement focused on addressing the country’s escalating cost of living, notably the dramatic rise in food prices. Dóza, known for roles in popular Slovak television series, announced his shift from the stage to politics earlier this week, citing widespread public frustration with perceived government inaction.
The move comes as Slovakia grapples with inflation, with food prices experiencing a significant surge in recent months. According to data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 16.8% year-on-year in April 2024.This has fueled public discontent, particularly among lower-income households, and created an opening for a new political voice focused on economic concerns. Dóza’s initiative, currently unnamed, aims to channel this frustration into a viable political force capable of challenging the established parties in upcoming elections. He intends to focus on concrete proposals to alleviate the financial burden on citizens, including measures to support domestic agriculture and regulate market prices.
