Śląsk Wrocław – Wisła Kraków: Kibice z Transparentami o Skardze do KE i “Denuncjacji”

Wrocław, Poland – Supporters of Śląsk Wrocław used their team’s recent Betclic 1. Liga match against Chrobry Głogów to publicly express discontent with recent club developments and direct criticism towards rivals Wisła Kraków. Two banners were displayed during the match at Tarczyński Arena, addressing issues stemming from a dispute over access to away sections and allegations of improper financial practices.

The controversy began with Śląsk Wrocław’s decision, influenced by its fanbase, to deny access to visiting supporters for an upcoming match against Wisła Kraków. This decision prompted a strong reaction from Jarosław Królewski, the owner of Wisła Kraków, who announced his intention to file a complaint with the European Commission. Królewski alleges that Śląsk Wrocław is receiving illegal state funding, creating an unfair competitive advantage.

According to legal expert Bartłomiej Gawrecki, speaking to Weszło, Królewski’s complaint centers on European Union regulations regarding fair competition. “We are bound by EU rules concerning competition, because we have a common sports market, which is confirmed in the case law of the European Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union. On a common market, state aid is not allowed, because it distorts market conditions and makes it difficult for others to function. State aid is generally prohibited on the common EU market,” Gawrecki explained.

Śląsk Wrocław fans responded to Królewski’s threat with a banner reading, “Denunciation is a symbol of their nature. GTS Wisła reports to the prosecutor’s office.” A second banner outlined demands for Wisła Kraków supporters: “Reject the machete and Wisła’s gas cyclamen. Then you will sit in the away sector.” Remarkably, supporters of Chrobry Głogów adopted the second banner, displaying it in their own section towards the conclude of the match, according to a post on social media account @Slasknet.

Despite the off-field distractions, Śląsk Wrocław secured a 2-1 victory over Chrobry Głogów, marking their second consecutive win. This result propelled Śląsk into the promotion play-off zone, with 37 points. However, they remain closely pursued by Stal Rzeszów, who trail by only two points. For Chrobry Głogów, the loss resulted in them relinquishing their position as league runners-up, falling to third place behind Pogoń Grodzisk Mazowiecki.
