Sky Sports launches Minus 1 digital series highlighting WSL players

Sky Sports launches Minus 1 digital series highlighting WSL players

October 26, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Sky Sports has launched Minus 1, a new digital series highlighting the lives and routines of Women’s Super League players, premiering with Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone and Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson.

The broadcaster currently holds the rights to approximately 90% of Women’s Super League matches.

Expanding Beyond Matchday Broadcasts

The format builds directly on live broadcast coverage. The goal is simple: produce short-form, personality-led programming designed to reach viewers far beyond regular matchday audiences.

Content from the series is distributed across Sky Sports’ digital and social platforms. It is anchored primarily by the network’s dedicated WSL TikTok account.

Childhood Friends Reunite for the Debut

The debut episode dropped ahead of the Women’s Manchester derby on October 25th.

For the opener, childhood friends Toone and Hodgkinson met at Manchester United’s training ground. They used the session to discuss the gritty realities of elite sport.

Uncovering Pre-Match Rituals and Private Routines

The programme zeroes in on the preparation and daily routines required to compete at the highest level. It also compares the unique pressures of individual and team sports.

Sky Sports confirmed the series explores pre-match meals, personal superstitions, and unseen habits to uncover what drives top athletes away from the pitch.

Behind the Scenes of Elite Competition

Toone explained how she views professional sports during their conversation.

She explained that working as an individual differs from being part of a team, noting the series highlights unseen moments that contribute to on-pitch performances.

Subsequent episodes are set to feature additional WSL players. They will be joined by special guests pulled from the worlds of sport, music, and culture.
