Sky & LATimes: Streaming Deal Brings US Content to UK Viewers

Disney+ content will be fully integrated into Sky’s U.K. Streaming platform starting next month, according to an agreement announced Wednesday.

The multi-year deal will see Disney+ Standard with Ads included in eligible Sky TV packages. Sky customers will gain access to films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, alongside series like “Grey’s Anatomy,” according to a statement from Disney.

A new linear movie channel, Disney Cinema, will also be launched on Sky’s paid-TV network as part of the agreement. This marks the first time U.K. Subscribers will have access to Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, and Hayu all within a single Sky subscription, which costs approximately £24 (roughly $33) per month.

“We’ve grown Disney+ in the U.K. Into our largest market across Europe over the past six years, and Sky is the perfect partner for our next wave of growth in the U.K. And Ireland,” said Karl Holmes, Disney+ general manager. “This agreement gives millions of Sky customers a simple, seamless way to enjoy all the great stories that Disney+ offers, and opens up a substantial new audience for content creators and advertisers.”

Sophia Ahmad, Sky’s chief consumer officer, stated that the integration of Disney+ into Sky’s technology through a single subscription is focused on providing the best content, experience, and value to Sky customers. She highlighted Sky’s existing entertainment offerings, including Sky Originals, exclusive content, premium sports, and partnerships with other global providers.

The deal extends Disney’s reach in Europe, following similar agreements in Spain, Germany, and the Middle East. The inclusion of content from Lucasfilm, such as “Andor,” and Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, including “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” is expected to be a key draw for subscribers.
