Skindred announces “Detour” Tour, Hits Smaller UK Venues
Welsh reggae-rock band Skindred is embarking on a UK tour, bringing their high-energy performances to smaller towns and cities often missed by major acts. The “Detour” tour aims to support local venues and connect with fans across the country.
Hitting the Road Less Traveled
The tour kicks off this autumn, taking Skindred to venues outside the usual big city stops. The first show is October 16 at Keele University Student Union, followed by dates in Tenby and Swansea.
Other locations include Buckley, Frome, Worthing, Warrington, and Wolverhampton in October. The band will continue into November with shows in Middlesborough, Wakefield, Torquay, Bournemouth, and Folkestone.
Supporting Grassroots Music
We as a band are extremely conscientious about venturing outside of just the major UK cities to spread the Skindred sound,”
said drummer Arya Goggin. “This October the ‘Detour’ is our attempt to do just that.”
Goggin emphasized the importance of supporting these often-overlooked venues. “As a band we love to play live, but there are so many amazing towns and cities with fantastic venues across the country that get forgotten and need to be supported,”
he added.

Addressing Venue Closures
The “Detour” tour comes amid growing concerns about the closure of grassroots music venues in the UK.Rising touring costs have forced bands to prioritize larger cities, leaving smaller venues at risk.
Speaking to NME, Music Venue Trust CEO Mark Davyd highlighted the financial pressures facing venues and artists. “Bands cannot afford to pick up the cost of touring, venues cannot afford to turn the fucking lights on… artists want to be out on the road and getting these audiences, but this touring sector is as far as it can go without entirely toppling over,”
he said.
Initiatives are underway to support grassroots venues, including a proposed levy on tickets for arena-level gigs. This would create a system where larger venues contribute to the sustainability of smaller venues.
