Happy Mashiane, Kaizer Chiefs

Siwelele Coach Mosoetsa Working to Secure Happy Mashiane Signing

October 16, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Siwelele FC interim head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has confirmed he is working to secure the services of Happy Mashiane, a former Kaizer Chiefs defender who is currently a free agent. Mosoetsa is seeking to sign the player for the ongoing 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

The left-back has been training with the Bloemfontein-based club since the FIFA break. Speaking at the 2026 Carling Knockout Cup draw on Wednesday, Mosoetsa stated that Mashiane “has been training very well” and possesses valuable PSL experience from his time at Kaizer Chiefs. “He has much to offer,” Mosoetsa added. Mosoetsa further noted that “you cannot deny the fact that he is a very good player.”

Administrative hurdles to a permanent deal

While the coach expressed positivity regarding the player’s quality, he noted that the signing is not yet finalized. Mosoetsa explained that “there are just a couple of things that need to be sorted out administratively” before the club can proceed. He further clarified that the outcome depends on “what happens behind the scenes with management and his agent sorting out any other outstanding issues.”

Siwelele FC is actively seeking to reinforce its left wing-back position following the departure of Neo Rapoo to Orlando Pirates. Mashiane is already familiar with the environment, having spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan with the club.

Mashiane’s transition from Kaizer Chiefs

The 29-year-old defender parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs during the off-season after a mutual agreement to terminate their association. Mashiane spent seven seasons with the club after being promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge side to the senior team in 2019 under Ernst Middendorp. During his tenure with the “Glamour Boys,” he recorded 69 appearances, five assists, and four goals. While at the club, he was a favorite of former coach Gavin Hunt and received a red card during a CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly.

Before his recent training stint with Siwelele FC, Mashiane spent several weeks in July training with Stellenbosch FC. However, head coach Gavin Hunt decided against offering him a contract. The Winelands-based team opted not to sign the former South African youth international.

Early professional career

Mashiane began his career at Tembisa Black Pirates. He later spent time at the Future Through Football Academy and the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy before joining Kaizer Chiefs’ Naturena in 2015.
