Siniakova Advances to Seoul Quarterfinals, Defeating Kasatkina in Straight sets
Seoul, South Korea – September 18, 2025 – Kateřina Siniaková secured her place in the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 Seoul tournament today, overcoming Daria Kasatkina in two sets. The victory marks Siniaková’s third quarterfinal appearance on the top circuit this year and her first in a tournament larger then a WTA 250 since June 2024.
Despite Kasatkina’s recent struggles – having not reached a quarterfinal since January – Siniaková anticipated a challenging match, acknowledging a historically arduous head-to-head record. Siniaková had previously won six of seven encounters against the Russian-Australian player, including a final appearance against her last year in Seoul.
The match proved to be a hard-fought contest, with Siniaková ultimately prevailing 7-6(2) and 6-4 after nearly two hours of play. She initially faced a service break in the opening game but regained control, dominating lengthy exchanges. After failing to convert a break point at 5-1, Siniaková recovered to win the first set in a tie-break, 7-2.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Siniaková building a 5-2 lead and successfully defending two break points to close out the match.
This win improves Siniaková’s record against players ranked in the Top 20 to 3-6 for the year. She has yet to drop a set in four matches played in Seoul, including qualifying rounds.
Siniaková will next face Suzan Lamens, who upset fifth-seeded Diana Šnajderová,in the quarterfinals. This will be Siniaková’s 21st career semifinal on the WTA Tour, following her triumph at a WTA 125 event in Poland in August and a semifinal appearance in Cluj in February.
