Singer Opens Up About Family in New Album: ‘Luck…or something’

February 18, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Hilary Duff’s upcoming album, “Luck… or Something,” set for release February 20, 2026, is accompanied by candid revelations about familial relationships, including strained connections with her sister Haylie Duff and her father, Robert Duff. The singer discussed these dynamics in a recent interview with Glamour magazine, referencing lyrical content from the new record.

Duff addressed a line from one song, “I don’t know when it happened / I don’t even know what it’s about,” as pertaining to her relationship with her sister. Another track, “The Optimist,” contains the lyrics, “I wish I could sleep on a plane and my dad really loved me,” directly addressing her father. The artist’s decision to publicly discuss these personal matters comes as she prepares to re-enter the music scene after a decade-long hiatus, having signed with Atlantic Records in September 2025.

“It’s my family. They are the people who influence you the most, who naturally occupy more space as human beings born into a certain context,” Duff explained in the interview, as reported by Il Fatto Quotidiano. However, she emphasized that familial ties do not guarantee enduring unity, stating, “The fact of being born into a family does not mean that it will always remain united. You can only control your part and your path.”

The singer also touched upon the impact of her parents’ divorce, describing her upbringing as “complicated.” She indicated a sense of readiness to share these experiences publicly, suggesting a shift in her personal perspective. According to Radio Globo, Duff expressed a desire to connect with her audience based on who she is now, rather than who she once was.

“Luck… or Something” is produced primarily by Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, and follows her previous album, “Breathe In. Breathe Out,” released in 2015. The album’s title itself reflects Duff’s acknowledgement of both fortunate circumstances and the challenges she has faced throughout her life and career. The release will be supported by two concert tours, “Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour” and the “Lucky Me Tour.” A documentary series directed by Sam Wrench, chronicling Duff’s return to music, is also planned, according to Atlantic Records.

The album has already yielded two singles, “Mature,” released in November 2025, and “Roommates,” which followed in January 2026. The introspective nature of the album, as described by Wikipedia, is shaped by Duff’s experiences over the past decade, exploring themes of motherhood, family relationships, and past romances.
