Manikganj-2 MP and folk singer Momtaz Begum’s mother, Uzala Begum, died Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka, according to reports from the Daily Sun.
Uzala Begum, 75, had been suffering from a liver ailment, the Daily Sun reported. She passed away around 9:30 am local time.
The news comes as other singers are reflecting on the legacies of their mothers. Naledi Aphiwe, a singer, recently spoke about how her late mother, Lindiwe, would be proud of her and her sister, Nontokozo Mkhize’s, success, according to SNL24. Aphiwe stated that 2026 would bring more music and accolades, a sentiment shared on Facebook by the Daily Sun.
