Simone Biles is weighing a potential return to gymnastics, but acknowledges the increasing personal sacrifices required as she ages and prioritizes her life with husband Jonathan Owens. The Olympic champion publicly questioned what would motivate her to pursue another major achievement, revealing a shift in priorities beyond the sport.
Biles, 28, discussed the evolving sacrifices needed to compete at an elite level. Earlier in her career, she missed events like prom and social functions. Now, she faces trade-offs involving family and time with Owens, an NFL player. “Now it’s like, starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?” she stated.
The gymnast also expressed a need for genuine excitement to fuel a comeback. In a conversation with L’Equipe, Biles explained, “I’m really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband…go support him at his games, live my life as a woman. I’ve accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, it would really have to excite me.” She acknowledged the four-year commitment leading up to a potential Olympics in Los Angeles, adding, ”It’s in LA, it’s back in the states, which is so exciting. But if I’m going to compete again, I’m not so sure.”
Biles previously indicated she is “humble enough to know when to be done,” suggesting a careful consideration of her future in the sport. While a return remains uncertain, the possibility continues to spark interest among fans.
