Shrek 2 remaster for Xbox Series X|S confirmed by store listing
An official Microsoft Store listing confirmed on October 16, 2026, that a remastered version of the 2004 action-adventure title Shrek 2 is in development for Xbox Series X and S.
The store page appeared ahead of an apparent official announcement scheduled for next week’s ID@Xbox Showcase. While the listing includes a trailer, the game is not yet available for pre-order, and no pricing or release date has been provided.
Enhanced Features and Gameplay
The remaster aims to update the cult-classic movie tie-in with significant technical improvements. According to the store page, the game has been rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes
. New additions include a Photo Mode for capturing snapshots and a Cheat Mode designed to allow players to customize their experience.

The game supports solo play and co-op for up to four players, which can be enjoyed via couch co-op, online play, or a combination of both. The listing also notes the inclusion of Xbox cross-platform co-op. Players will explore the fairytale kingdom of Far Far Away, moving from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle while swapping between franchise heroes to solve puzzles and defeat bosses.
Aspyr Media Develops New Version of 2004 Game
The original 2004 version of Shrek 2 was developed by Luxoflux and released on platforms including the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Aspyr Media, the studio behind this new iteration, is known for previous ports such as Star Wars Episode 1 Racer and Lord of the Rings: War in the North.

While the store page specifies an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+ for Fantasy Violence and Comic Mischief and lists an install size of approximately 13.85 GB, many questions remain. As of this writing, neither Aspyr nor Microsoft has officially announced the game beyond the premature store listing, and it remains unknown when the title will launch or if it will arrive on other platforms.
