Shawinigan-Sud residents Asked to Conserve Water Due to Pumping Station Issue
Shawinigan, Tuesday, September 2, 2025 – The City of Shawinigan is requesting residents in the Shawinigan-Sud sector to voluntarily reduce water usage until the end of the day on Friday, September 5. This request follows a breakdown at the 105th Avenue pumping station, which is causing potential overload to the Saint-Maurice River downstream from the Almaville dam.
Citizens in the affected area have been notified via the city’s automated messaging service (SMAC). Residents can register for SMAC alerts at www.shawinigan.ca/smac or by calling the citizen service line at 819 536-7200.
To minimize water consumption, the city suggests postponing high-water-use activities like laundry, dishwasher operation, and pool cleaning. Residents are also reminded to avoid flushing inappropriate items – such as food waste, sanitary products, and wipes – down the drain.
The ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and parks, and Environment canada have been informed of the situation. The City of Shawinigan expresses its gratitude for the public’s cooperation.
