Entertainment Leaders Condemn Boycott of Israeli film Industry
A new open letter signed by prominent figures in the entertainment industry rejects calls to boycott the Israeli film industry, asserting the importance of artistic exchange and opposing censorship based on nationality. Among the signatories are former Paramount Global chair Shari Redstone, Mattel chairman and CEO Ynon kreiz, Will & Grace creator David Kohan, and Fernando Szew, CEO of FOX Entertainment Global. This follows an earlier letter featuring A-list talent, signaling continued industry resistance to the boycott.
The escalating debate centers on a growing movement advocating for a cultural boycott of Israel in response to its actions in Gaza. The letter’s supporters argue that isolating Israel’s film industry stifles dialog and hinders understanding, while proponents of the boycott maintain it is indeed a legitimate form of protest against Israeli policies. The entertainment industry’s response highlights the complex intersection of art, politics, and social responsibility.
paramount Studios has been the only major studio to publicly address the boycott, issuing a statement on September 12 through chief communications officer Melissa zukerman. “Silencing individual creative artists based on their nationality does not promote better understanding or advance the cause of peace,” the statement read. “The global entertainment industry should be encouraging artists to tell their stories and share their ideas with audiences throughout the world. We need more engagement and dialogue – not less.”
