Shanghai Enters Final Preparations for 48th WorldSkills Competition

Venue Readiness and Infrastructure at the National Exhibition and Convention Center

With just five days remaining before the opening ceremony, preparations have reached completion milestones at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, as detailed by ECNS. All materials designated for the 64 distinct competition events have arrived on site. Furthermore, the construction of functional rooms and specialized workstations is basically finished across all eight designated venues.

Facilities and equipment are currently undergoing final debugging phases to guarantee flawless technical execution. According to official figures, roughly 1 million pieces of infrastructure items have been organized. Cross-departmental coordination involving security, emergency response, and municipal units has produced tailored management plans for every single competition event to maintain rigorous safety and technical support.

Gao Zhanfeng, deputy director of the competition department of the Shanghai 48th WorldSkills Competition Executive Bureau, noted that final debugging of facilities for each event is actively underway and all operational preparations are expected to wrap up by Friday.

Technological Innovations and Global Standards

The layout and design of the venues adhere strictly to the rigorous requirements mandated by WorldSkills International. Chen Qiong, venue manager for the creative arts and fashion zone, explained that training bases both within Shanghai and across the broader country mirror these international benchmarks precisely regarding competitor workstation sizing, equipment placement, and movement routes.

AI-powered design technology has been introduced in events like hairdressing to assist competitors in executing digital designs. The floristry event utilizes a black light-absorbing background to highlight competitors’ works, while computer-related events feature external display screens projecting operations in real time.

Broadening Access Through Interactive Experiences

Beyond the competition zones, the event features interactive experience areas positioned near the main venues. These spaces allow visitors to try simple operation modules and gain hands-on exposure to various vocational skills. Chinese competitors are slated to participate in all 64 events spanning six major fields, which include transport, logistics, construction, and building technology, with national training programs progressing in parallel.
