BOSTON – Severe thunderstorms are forecast to impact Massachusetts on Saturday, bringing teh potential for damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes. StormTeam 5 has declared Saturday an Alert Day as storms are expected to develop in western Massachusetts after 1 p.m. and spread eastward through the evening.
The primary threat from these storms will be damaging wind gusts and large hail. While less likely, the possibility of tornadoes and localized flooding also exists. The highest risk for severe weather is northwest of Boston, within a timeframe of 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Initially, storms will be scattered throughout the afternoon, primarily in central and western parts of the state.A line of storms is anticipated to move into eastern Massachusetts late Saturday afternoon and early evening, though it is expected to weaken as it progresses. Steady rain may follow after 8 p.m.,diminishing by midnight.
Sunday will be cooler and less humid with widespread showers. Damp conditions will persist throughout the day. Lingering showers are possible early Monday morning for Cape Cod and the Islands.
