Sesko: Man United & Newcastle Bids Amid Leipzig Training Isolation

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Breaking: RB Leipzig has begun isolating forward Benjamin Šeško from first-team training, signaling a potential imminent transfer, sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday. The move comes amid significant interest from Premier League clubs Newcastle united adn Manchester United.

Šeško, 21, has attracted bids valued at approximately £69.7 million (roughly $92.7 million USD based on current exchange rates) plus performance-based add-ons from both English sides, according to sources. Leipzig officially announced Šeško and defender Lukas Klostermann would train individually, following Šeško’s omission from the squad during Saturday’s preseason friendly against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.

The situation at Leipzig reflects the player’s growing market value after a successful 2023-24 season where he recorded 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. Šeško joined RB Leipzig from Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg in July 2023 for a reported €24 million transfer fee. Prior to Leipzig, he developed through the youth ranks at Rudar Velenje in Slovenia, making his professional debut at age 16.

Manchester United are reportedly confident in their ability to secure Šeško’s signature, believing their financial resources provide an advantage over newcastle. However, the outcome could significantly impact Newcastle United‘s plans, particularly regarding the future of their star striker, Alexander Isak. Newcastle recently rejected a bid from Liverpool for isak, reportedly in the region of £60 million, and Šeško’s arrival could dictate where Isak features in eddie Howe’s tactical setup next season.

Šeško, a 6’5″ forward, is known for his pace, finishing ability, and physical presence. He has also earned 16 caps for the Slovenia national team, scoring 8 goals. His potential arrival in the premier League would add another highly-rated attacking talent to a league already boasting some of the world’s best forwards.
