From Disaster Relief to Trail Restoration: justserve Connects Volunteers With Needs Across teh Nation
SALT LAKE CITY – In the wake of devastating wildfires in Hawaii and ongoing recovery efforts from recent storms,a network of volunteers coordinated through JustServe.org is providing critical assistance, demonstrating a commitment to service that extends far beyond disaster response to include everyday community needs.
JustServe,a platform of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, facilitates connections between volunteers and organizations needing help. Originally launched in 2007, the initiative has grown to include partners beyond the Church, encompassing a diverse range of non-profits and community groups nationwide.
In Hawaii, following the catastrophic wildfires that ravaged Lahaina in August 2023, JustServe volunteers quickly mobilized. Efforts included sorting and distributing donations, providing meals, and assisting with cleanup. The scale of the disaster required a sustained response, and volunteers continue to support long-term recovery efforts.
“The outpouring of support has been amazing,” said Josette Padilla Eager, who provided the image of the Hawaii wildfires. “People are eager to help, and JustServe makes it easy to find meaningful ways to contribute.”
beyond disaster relief, JustServe addresses a wide spectrum of community needs. Recent projects highlighted by the organization include trail restoration at Woodmansee Park in Salem, Oregon, on June 18, 2024, where volunteers spread mulch to improve park access.
