Across Jiangsu province on September 18th, communities engaged in air defense evacuation drills and commemorative activities marking the 94th anniversary of the September 18th Incident. The events aimed to reinforce national defense awareness and ensure preparedness for potential emergencies, while also emphasizing the importance of remembering historical lessons.
In Nanjing’s Silicon Lane on Zhujiang Road, and at Hexing Primary School in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, residents, teachers, and students participated in guided evacuations following alarm signals. Training exercises included fire fighting techniques, medical bandage request, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Chang Wanzhi, vice principal of the Huangshan Road Branch of New City Junior High School of South Normal University, stated, “We remind students not to forget the national humiliation through air defense evacuation drills.It is not only a memory of history, but also an important practice of national defense education.”
huang Ying, a staff member of the Nanjing National Defense Mobilization Office, explained the broader purpose of the activities: “We hope to strengthen citizens’ national defense concepts and air defense and disaster prevention awareness by organizing such activities. We remind the general public to be prepared for danger in times of peace and convert historical memory into motivation to safeguard national security.”
the September 18th Incident, also known as the Mukden Incident, occurred in 1931 when the Japanese kwantung Army staged a bombing in Mukden (now Shenyang) as a pretext for invading and occupying Manchuria. It is widely regarded as the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War and a pivotal moment in modern Chinese history.
