Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin Visits Poland and Italy for Defense Export Push
Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin departed on an 11-day itinerary to Poland and Italy starting October 8, 2026, targeting industrial cooperation, defense exports, and urban diplomacy expansion, discoverynews.kr reported. The municipal delegation includes representatives from 10 regional defense and advanced technology enterprises looking to secure overseas sales channels.
The delegation’s first major stop centers on Wrocław, Poland. Seongnam City officials scheduled a sisterhood city agreement signing on October 9 with Wrocław, elevating a cooperative relationship that began in November 2024. Ten local defense companies accompanied the trip to hold direct export consultations with local entities. Meanwhile, the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency prepared an administrative framework by pursuing a business agreement with the Polish Defense Industry Association to facilitate joint technical information sharing.
Urban Regeneration and R&D Ties Shape the Italian Itinerary
Moving to Italy, the delegation’s schedule shifts toward high-density urban development and research-driven industrial policies. On October 12, officials inspected the Chorus Life complex in Bergamo, a mixed-use residential, commercial, and cultural development zone. The itinerary continues in Milan’s Porta Nuova district, focusing on the conversion of railway yards into administrative, residential, and green spaces alongside vertical forest architecture projects.
Industrial research ties take priority in Bologna. The delegation participates in the Technopole festival at the Technopolo research hub on October 15, examining technology commercialization models across academic and corporate networks. Seongnam City will subsequently formalize a sisterhood agreement with Bologna on October 16, building upon an initial friendly cooperation pact established in 2015. Municipal planners intend to connect the information and communications technology infrastructure of Pangyo Technovalley with Bologna’s research foundation.
