Seocho-gu to Host 7th Frost Pool instrument Street Festival This Weekend
Seoul, South Korea – Seocho-gu will transform into a vibrant hub of musical exploration this weekend, hosting the 7th Frost Pool Instrument Street Festival on Banpo-daero, Saturday, october 27th and Sunday, October 28th. Formerly known as the Seoul musical Instrument Festival, this year’s event is a key program within the larger Frost Pool Music Festival.
The festival leverages the unique infrastructure of Seocho’s designated Music Culture District, showcasing a remarkable collection of 219 instruments from around the globe – encompassing classical, folk, and modern electronic varieties. A special exhibition will feature large-scale instruments located within the district, offering visitors a rare chance to see and even interact wiht instruments often inaccessible to the public.
Beyond viewing,attendees can participate in hands-on experiences,including a violin-making demonstration and augmented reality (AR) instrument booths. Local instrument shops will also be present, fostering direct engagement with music and the craft of instrument creation.
The festival’s performance schedule is packed with diverse acts. Saturday’s opening ceremony, held in the Art Zone of the Frost Pool Music Festival, will feature a dynamic performance by the youth wind plaque group, followed by Gochang nongak, a Korean bagpipe concert, a brass band, and a string quartet ensemble. A highlight will be a large-scale collaborative performance bringing together residents, professional performers, and a diverse array of instruments.
On Sunday, the Shinjung Elementary School Orchestra will take the Welcome Zone stage, performing classical pieces and continuing the festival’s party of musical talent.
“We aim to establish Seocho-gu as a leading center for Korean music culture by fully utilizing the resources of our Music culture District,” stated Seocho-gu Head Jeon Sung-soo. “We hope this festival will allow everyone to experience the joy and vitality that music brings to daily life.”
