This is due to the depth of their lineup and the high ceiling of their starting rotation. Though, the Mariners’ inconsistency throughout the season – described as “Jekyll-and-Hyde” by Passan – also makes them a vulnerable contender in a generally “mediocre” American League.
“If you were to ask the simple question, which team gives the American League the best chance to win the World Series? I think the Mariners would finish first,” Passan said. The Mariners currently find themselves in a tight race for a Wild Card berth in the American League, with the outcome of the remaining regular season games determining their postseason fate.
