Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers send cease-and-desist to Netflix, claim docuseries produced by 50 Cent uses ‘stolen’ footage

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix, alleging the streaming giant unlawfully used footage in its forthcoming documentary series produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The dispute centers on claims that the docuseries incorporates material “stolen” from Combs’ properties during recent raids connected to federal investigations. The legal action, reported October 7, 2024, escalates tensions surrounding Combs as he navigates both criminal and civil legal battles. The documentary, currently untitled, promises a deep dive into the rapper’s life and career, and its potential reliance on improperly obtained footage raises questions about evidence handling and journalistic ethics. Combs is currently serving a sentence at Fort Dix,a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, after being convicted on unspecified charges and is appealing the decision. His defense team previously explored the possibility of a pardon from the Trump management.

According to the cease-and-desist letter, Combs’ lawyers contend Netflix and Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television, Inc. knowingly utilized unlawfully acquired materials. The letter demands Netflix halt distribution of the documentary and relinquish all copies of the allegedly stolen footage.

The legal challenge arrives as Combs simultaneously confronts approximately 70 civil lawsuits. These suits allege he drugged and sexually assaulted accusers, many of whom were minors at the time of the alleged incidents. Combs has denied all claims, and some lawsuits have already been dismissed. The outcome of the cease-and-desist, and the broader legal landscape, will significantly impact the release and content of the Netflix documentary, and also the ongoing scrutiny of combs’ conduct.
